Food, food glorious food!

I’d have to say New York is now my favourite place to eat out! The restaurants are so unique and the food, so delicious and with New York’s multicultural society you can practically get anything your heart desires.

I just moved into my new place in the Upper West Side of Manhattan and within a day of settling in, my housemates took me out to brunch to a little place called “Clinton Street Bakery” which like most food places here is “famous” and has a line down the street of people waiting to be seated. We got there an hour before the place even opened and waited out in the cold so that we were first in line. (!!)
It was well worth the wait, the food was delicious! definitely a great spot for breakfast or brunch. I think the blueberry pancakes where a favourite on our table.

Another great spot for food is the well-known “Chelsea Market.” This little mall is full of great one of kind bakeries, restaurants, grocers, meat markets etc. with products from all around the world. My favourite shop in Chelsea Market is Eleni’s cookie shop. All her cookies are handmade and decorated for every occasion.

If you’ve ever walked through China Town in New York you’ve probably spotted a dozen bubble teashops. I’ve never tried bubble tea before so my housemate took me to China town especially to try one of these bubble teas. Basically it’s just flavoured tea either hot or cold, with or without milk and with these little brown balls on the bottom called “boba” which is made from tapioca. I had a lychee-flavoured tea, which was nice and sweet, but the boba was really chewy and had a strange taste, definitely a new experience for me.

The best thing about food in New York is you can be anywhere wondering around and stumble onto something good. Just today I was walking around SoHo and found this place called “Rice to Riches.” Curious as to what it was we went inside and had a look. This place sells rice pudding in almost every flavor! We tried the tiramisu, butterscotch and cookies and cream. I never knew rice pudding could taste so good! Oh and if you LOVE pizza then Lombari’s Pizzeria in little Italy is the place to go. Being the first ever pizzeria in New York they have to have the best!

Big Love form NY!

Start spreading the news because I’m in NYC baby! That’s right 3 months of yellow cabs, thin crust pizza, busy streets, bright lights, and that funny accent that reminds you of the movie “The Godfather.” I’m over here for work, taking on the big smoke..in between jobs I’m going to show you around town and give you a taste of “The Big Apple.”

PART #1 SC IN NYC!

For the first two weeks of my trip my family followed me out to the big city to help me settle in but also to see the sights and experience this overwhelming city. Taking the advice from a Google search on “the do’s and don’ts of NYC” we managed to see the sights the best and cheapest way without any queues.

Tip 1#
If you want to be the king of Manhattan and go to the top of a really tall building just to look down at the world then going up the empire state building is not the best place to go. If you don’t want to wait hours in the queue then take my advice and go to the top of the Rockefeller Centre instead. The added bonus of going to the “Top Of The Rock” is that you can get the empire state building in your pictures which makes your photos look more like New York and less like a bunch of buildings with no iconic land marks in there.

Tip 2#
Now we all want to get an up close picture of the Statue of Liberty but instead of paying heaps for ferry tickets and then waiting another couple hours in line just to board the ferry to liberty island, I suggest taking the free ferry to Staten Island. Yes that’s right FREE! The Staten Island Ferry operates every half hour and cruses right past the Statue of Liberty. You can also get a good picture of Manhattan from the water with Brooklyn Bridge in the background.

We also managed to see the famous Times Square, Grand Central Station and stroll through Central Park. We were even lucky enough to have a snow day and experience New York in the snow. On our last day together, before my parents left for home, we had an old fashion American style diner lunch at “Big Daddy’s Diner.” Just another thing to check off the list in the big smoke…

Stay cool till part #2!

It’s like a Picasso painting on your nails!! Instead of showing off your artwork on a wall you show off your arty style on your fingers! I recently bought these nail art pens when I was in LA a couple months ago and I’ve become obsessed! I love matching my nails to my mood or clothes or situation…. There is no limit when it comes to your nails and if you don’t like it? Just remove and redo! The nail polish bottle is a two in one design, If you twist off the top it’s a brush for background colours and if you pull off the cap it becomes a pen so you can draw whatever you like. See what you can come up with! Here are a few of my Picasso nails to inspire you…
