About Guest Blogger

The "Guest Blogger" posts represent particular people we've invited to share their voice on the Volcomunity. The guest bloggers come from a variety of different backgrounds, they all have unique passions, interests and individual style. Each are respected and devoted to whatever it is they do. The common thread of all the guest bloggers is their sincere passion for what they create, whether it be music, art, fashion, photography, sports or any other facet of life…

I don’t know about you, but I am ready to show some summer swimsuit ass cheek, pop open a cold one, gather some good pals and crank the jams up to eleven! Summer months mean there is nothing but all your favorite bands hitting the road, and I’m stoked.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with one of my favorite metal bands, Volcom’s own Valient Thorr, on a project for my blog, Miss Austin. Lead singer, Valient Himself, lent his creative hand on some portraits of yours truly. I am a big fan of his work – his style is bold, entertaining, and uniquely Himself. He pretty much nailed what I wanted by bringing the meat, booze and the don’t-fucking-touch-my-meat-or-you’re-getting-shot attitude. Check it:

Valient Himself is killing it right now, not just with his band, but his drawings are selling as soon as he finishes them. Check out his Etsy store here, and take a peek at some of his other pieces (Prince!) below:

Valient  Thorr is bringing their new album, Our Own Masters, to Austin this summer with Gypsyhawk and Ramming Speed. Are they playing in your city? I bet they are! Check their schedule, and get up on it.  You’ll get sweaty, get a little tipsy and probably make 10 new friends. One of them more than likely will be Valient Himself.

If you haven’t been over to Miss Austin, shame and spankings for you. Come over, we can blow kisses to each other; I’ll sit on your lap and everything.

Happy Summering,

Jodie Holland

I took the train from Malmö to Stockholm on a very snowy day. The 4 hour train ride was amazing for its surrounding landscape (which makes me wanna come back next Winter, probably rent a car, explore the woods and go more up North, but that’s another story) ..and for the fact that when you buy a coffee at the bar, you get 3 refills..for FREE!!!!

I had some apprehension regarding Stockholm when I heard a few days before I left that it was -18°. It was already so cold in Malmö that I wondered how I was gonna survive that temperature. Contemplating wether I would have to put on an extra 3 layers, and then not be able to turn my head anymore and feel like a penguin.

But surprise!!! the temperature increased just as I got there!
I stayed on the Södermalm island and this is where I spent most of my time. I had booked a room on one of these hotel boats because the idea of sleeping on some kinda house boat seemed fun. And it was actually really lovely (or maybe I got lucky and picked up a decent one), the decoration, the atmosphere, sipping my coffee in the morning to the sound of Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Nick Drake…

I met up with my Norwegian friend Danny who was in town filming snowboarding at some city spots with Videograss (the town is also very famous for that in Winter, many streets spots to ride), so one day I walked all the way to Liljeholmen where they were to take some shots.

Stockholm is a beautiful city, no doubt about it, and the people are incredibly stylish even though they have a prominent taste for dark colors.
I really enjoyed walking around and getting lost in the streets. I can’t really give details of all the places I’ve been to because to be honest, I never really pay attention to names, I just walk… for hours… to wherever I feel like, without any special aim, just observing what’s going on around me, stopping every once in a while to have some “Fika” (mainly coffee + pastry, in my case “Kanelbullar” aka Swedish cinnamon bun as I am addicted to those) or to check a metro map if I feel like it’s time for me to go “home” and I can’t feel my feet anymore.
This is also definitely a destination I am really looking forward to going back to this Summer and experience more of the night life as the cold in Winter definitely constitutes a break from that, especially when you’ve just stuffed yourself with some Kötbullar (meat balls).

Imagine if one day Volcom would turn into a candy factory… I thought about this for a little while and wanted to have an answer for this unusual funny idea.

This is how it started. We had been riding Keystone’s park for a couple days and then hit a handrail before losing all the shots. Instead of being bummed out, with the help of my roommate and photographer Jesse Sutton, I turned our kitchen into a cupcake lab dedicated to eatable new Volcom creations.

After many hours of using various ingredients, color’s and textures, the kitchen aka “Volcom lab” was loaded of all types of cupcakes. My goal was to have the Stone Logo as accurate as possible while maintaining an incredibly good taste. We finally finished, and received the prefect one, a Volcom chocolate and lemon cream cheese cupcake!

So if you listen to rock music, don’t know anything about cooking like perhaps most of your friends and actually have never tried to cook before, this recipe is made for you. Step by step you will learn how to bake delicious cupcakes to impress all your friends and possible Volcom fans with.

Enjoy and as we say in France “Bon Appétit”.

The Volcom Chocolate vs Lemon Cream Cheese Cupcake

Step 1 – Dough

For this incredible dough you will need:
• 250 gr of Butter
• 250 gr of Flour
• 4 eggs
• 150 gr. Chocolate
• 200 gr of Sugar
• Baking powder
• Black color
• Salt

For the perfect creamy and fluffy topping you will need:
• 1 pack of Cream cheese
• Powder sugar (as much as you fell like it!)
• 2 Lemons
• 1 Orange
• Vanilla
• Black color
• Black and white fondant

Step one, the dough:

Preheat the oven to 180°C and begin with mixing the yellow part of the eggs and the sugar. Blend uuntil the mixture gets white and fluffy, then add the melted butter, the flour and the baking powder.

Then separate the dough into 2 bowls, add the melted chocolate and the black color in one of the bowl. Finally, gently mix the egg whites into the two bowls (I did it with a bit a salt).

Make sure it tastes good!

Take the cupcake molds and start filling with the chocolate on the bottom and top off with the butter dough. Then put the cupcakes into the oven for 20 minutes.

Step 2 – The Topping

Basically, you just have to mix all the ingredients together with a mixer then separate half of the mixture to add the black color in one of them. Leave it in the fridge for a couple hours. With a frosting bag you will design your own topping, don’t need to be an artist to do it, it is very easy.

Step 3 – The Stone Logo

Take the fondant and draw the logo with a knife, when it is done just put it on the toppings.
Your cupcakes are now ready to be eaten!
