Where are you from? How old are you?
Hello everybody, I’m Chelsey. I currently live in the most stellar Austin, TX and I am currently 23 years young.
What is your occupation and how are you connected to the Volcom brand?
Student, PT Waitress, and a brand spanking new GO VOLCOM SWIM girl!!
How did you get started in your career as a model/actress?
Well, it all started the day that I learned that brushes could also be misused as microphones.
When did you know that acting was your passion and that you wanted to pursue it in life?
In 7th grade when Mrs. Kimball gave me the role as Fern in Charlotte’s Web. I remember thinking that I was the coolest kid in school.
As the “GO VOLCOM SWIM” girl, what aspects of the Volcom girl’s swim collection are you involved in?
Currently apart of some of the new upcoming videos to be launched and the new BLOG that is going to be up and running in March that I recommend everyone to check out!
What kind of videos do you have in store to share on the Volcomunity blog? Will you be covering events for the blog?
Definitely will be attending some major events that occur here in Austin, TX. I’ve also been working with Mike Aho on some awesome swim videos that should be coming out throughout this year. I can’t even begin to express how amazingly talented he is and how rad the video and videos are and will be when they‘re released. You’re just going to have to keep checking out the BLOG to understand!
What is your favorite kind of swimsuit style?
I’m all about something that’s sexy and fun, yet that also keeps all of my privates private.
What are three words that describe you?
Golden, confident, and southern.
Did you think you would be doing what you are doing today when you were younger?
No way. I knew I would be doing something awesome, but had no idea exactly how or what. Life’s full of great surprises!
What inspires you to wake up in the morning and face the day?
Some days, the fact that it’s a new day and I’m still fortunate enough to experience and live it. Other days, coffee.
Who is your role model?
My friends, they always inspire me in their own ways.
Do you go to school?
That I do!
Where do you see yourself in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Do you still think that you will be acting?
In a year? Probably loving every minute of life in Austin, TX. 5 years? Not at my high school reunion. More likely to have lived and traveled more resulting in being even more experienced, happy, successful, and loving life. 10 years? Hopefully somewhere with the wind at my back and the sun and a smile on my face.
How do you hope to develop as an actress beyond your work with Volcom?
By continuing being a waitress. Also by being apart of any opportunities that cross my path.
Who inspires you as an actress? Who are your favorite actors/actresses.
Natalie Portman hands down. She pursued her dream, but yet made time to get an education. That’s pretty impressive. I also like any comedian and John Goodman.
What were your hobbies growing up, and are they still a part of your life today?
I played kickball for 6 years and sometimes to this day, I still play kickball. I grew up on a beach. So a lot of my childhood revolved around that kind of atmosphere. Unfortunately, I am 2 hours away from a beach now. Thankfully, Austin has much more to offer and every time I do find myself on a beach, it’s like being a kid all over again.
Describe a regular day in your life that gives a good idea about who you are and what you do.
Wake up, make some coffee, followed by stretching it out on the mat. Make a mental list of everything I want to accomplish that day and then set out to conquer. Some days I work at Gueros Taco Bar on Congress. Other days, you can find me with my friends out in the sunshine. I also love to cook, so whenever I have a night off, my roommate and I usually have wine, dinner, and Netflix over at our place with homies. I love life.
In your own words, how would you describe the quintessential Volcom girl?
True and happy with herself and her loved ones. Also, someone that works hard to accomplish her goals.
How big a part is Volcom’s surf/skate/snow culture and aesthetic in your own life?
I have a lot of homies that surf, skate, and snowboard. Everyone I know, knows what Volcom is and what it represents. I don’t take part as much as I’d like to in extreme sports, but if ever the opportunity strikes, I’m usually game to attempt anything.. within reasoning.
How big a part is fashion in your life, and how do you incorporate the Volcom girl’s clothing line into your own sense of personal style?
Fashion is huge in my life!!! My closet and I have a great understanding, and Volcom clothing is just the cherry on top to my every day or going out wear!
What inspires your personal style?
Spontaneity.
Who is your style icon?
Francoise Hardy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Marilyn Monroe, Kate Moss, and my room mate, Roslynn Castillo.
How has being a working as an actress influenced your personal style? Has it made you more confident with your clothing choices?
Oh definitely. It has opened my eyes to the concept that being true to you and wearing what you like, even if it’s different and no one else is wearing it, is more than okay . . . It’s absolutely perfect!
How has your personal style developed since the start of your own blog?
I’ve finally stopped wearing pajamas to the grocery store.
What pieces of clothing can you not live without?
My bathing suits. I could live in just them if the world would let me.
If you were stranded on a remote island, what 5 things would you have to have with you?
Swim suit, my music, my friends, an all you can eat and drink buffet, and a first aid kit. I’d call this paradise!
What places in the world have you been to?
I’ve only conquered North America and some of Mexico thus far.
If you had to choose one place in the world to visit that you have never been to before, what place would this be?
Greece. I think Greek mythology and food is incredible.
What other ways do you express your creativity, other than what you do now (art, photography, fashion design, music, writing, etc.)?
I paint, write, decorate my apartment, take photos, practice Yoga, sing, communicate, cook, dance. Whatever feels right at that moment that helps me release some of myself in the world, I do.
What is your favorite quote/motto to live by, and what does it mean to you?
“One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don’t throw it away.”
-Stephen Hawking
I think Stephen Hawking is a one of a kind genius and I hope to achieve as much as he has some day, but in my own way. Every time I hear this quote by him, I remember to keep looking up, continue working hard, to always love with all I have, and I’ll never fail.
Where is your absolute favorite place to be and why?
Austin, TX, because it’s where my heart is.
What is it that you love about where you live?
Ohh, so much!! The people, Longhorns, the food, the environment, the water, sunsets, the beer, how it’s hotter more days than it is cold, the music, the culture and how it’s so diverse in a town, how people love keeping it weird, and most of all, that it’s deep in the heart of Texas!
In March, you will be attending the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas. Of course, you will be there for the great music and new bands, but how else will you be involved in this event? Will you want to cover your experience at SXSW on the blog?
I absolutely will be covering SXSW 2011 on the blog. It’s one of the major and one of my favorite events in Austin that I have taken part in since before I even moved here. It’s such a diverse and long event that it’s hard to say exactly what part I won’t be involved in. I look forward to interacting and reviewing the film and music portion. So stay tuned!
What new projects are you working on that we can look forward to seeing in the future?
More videos for Volcom with Mike Aho that are going to be amazing! Events around Austin that I am so excited to blog about and perhaps introduce some people to. Just living my life to the fullest and having every person that wants to be involved be a part of it by following the blog.
Anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?
I’m so excited for this year and to be working with such talented people. I just can’t wait until the blog launches so everyone can understand why it’s so hype worthy!
What are some topics that you are very excited to blog about on the Volcomunity blog, and how would you like to blog about them (video/photo diaries, outfit posts, video updates, inspiration posts, what’s inspiring you, how you would style a certain Volcom piece, event coverage, etc.)? Please list some ideas that you have for your section of the blog.
I look forward to some major events here such as: SXSW 2011, Austin City Limits 2011 (ACL), Fun Fun Fun Fest, etc. I also am looking forward to introducing people to who I am in this life and my every day experiences. I happen to work on Congress part time, which is one of the most popular and random streets in Austin. I’m excited to introduce its randomness and how awesome I find it to be to everyone else. I plan on blogging through video, photos, stories, quotes, sentences, and inspiration posts through out every sort of event. Whatever form of blogging at that time makes the most sense to me and expresses the event in the way that I feel will help the viewers experience the best is how I’ll relay it.
What aspects of the blog would you like to be included that will represent your personality and personal style?
I’m open to suggestions on the format of the design. As for layouts, I’m a huge Astronomy fan, so a simple background with the Milky Way or nebulas exploding would be awesome. Then again, I also love nature. I’d marry a sunset if I could.
How would you like to portray yourself in your photoshoot with Volcom?
Fun, sexy, cool, and smart!!!
