Volcom is so excited to announce the release of the Quincy Davis x Volcomunity collaboration for Spring 2013. Quincy, a Volcom surfer, model and designer spent hours and days with the Volcom design team to create the pieces of her very first collection. Quincy grew up in Montauk, New York as well as Rincon, Puerto Rico, you can visibly see her East Coast beach lifestyle reflected in her pieces. Sailor stripes, bright colors and spins to classic silhouettes exemplifies her personal style. Below is a behind the scenes preview of her collection, with of course Miss Quincy herself modeling for it. This collection is available at finer retailers globally as well as shop.volcom.com
We sat down with Quincy a short time back to find out more about her, the collection inspiration and her personal fashion style.

Tell us where are your currently at?
I am in Puerto Rico at my house. I am here to surf because it’s too cold right now in New York.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Montauk, New York. I love it in Montauk, it’s a place where I can always enjoy going back to after traveling.
How did you get introduced to surfing?
My whole family surfed so I started to tag along and I eventually got my own surfboard.
How long have you been a part of Volcom’s surf program?
For about 5 or more years now I think?!?!
What is your surfing goal for 2013?
I want to be top 5 on the World Junior Series and still surfing all over the world.
If one had to ask… what are your long-term goals or where do you see yourself in 5 years, how would you answer?
Definitely graduating from High School, still surfing competitively, its hard to tell but Id love to qualify for the World Tour someday.
It’s amazing how you’ve had the opportunity to grow up in two of the most amazing places… Montauk, New York and Rincon, Puerto Rico. If you had to choose only one, which place is your favorite?
Both have a special place in my heart but Montauk is where I love to be and where I call home.
With being a professional surfer we know you’ve travelled all over the globe. What is your favorite place you’ve ever been to?
My favorite place to this day is still the Maldives. I went on my first surf trip with Volcom there and I loved the place. Hopefully I can go back one day. It’s so beautiful, and the waves are perfect.
When you think of spring, what is “perfect” spring day?
I love springtime at home! Flowers are blooming again and everyone is in a happy mood because summer time is approaching. Waking up, going to the bakeshop for coffee and an occasional pastry! Driving along the cliffs on the beach to go surf. Meet up with my friends to hang out and have lunch. Surf again and then have a home cooked dinner with my family.
What is the main inspiration for your Spring 2013 collection?
When designing my line I wanted it to bring out that Montauk, beachy but cute feel to it. I think it really has that in it. The line has a nautical feel to it as well. I wanted it to be somewhat casual but have a pop to it as well!
You had the opportunity to come in and work with the Volcom design team on your collection, what was it like working with that amazing group of girls?
Working with the Volcom design team was really hands on, from picking the styles to the color and fabric. They’re really amazing! They really listened to my ideas and then incorporated their talent with sketching up some really cute pieces!
With this being your first design collection, how did you begin the process?
It simply started off with my mom buying me a binder and I just began filling it up with magazine tear outs while sitting on long plane rides. I brought in the tear outs to Volcom and the girls loved them and were throwing out so many great ideas.
We love every piece from your Spring 2013 collection, but if you had to choose just one, what would be you your favorite piece from your collection?
My favorite piece is the striped sweater dress. It’s just so comfortable and also you can wear it anywhere… by itself in warmer weather or dress it up with leggings and boots to be cute in the winter!
How has your life in Montauk, NY influenced your style and vision for your designs?
Montauk is such a beach town that I’ve grown up wearing and living in beach cover-ups and cute little dresses. But living close to one of the major fashion cities in the world, NYC, I love mixing it up with more fashion forward pieces when I can. It’s all about the mix of both worlds for this line… I want girls to really be able to wear these pieces no matter where they live.
Okay, pretend that you had the opportunity to choose any celebrity to wear your collection…. who would it be?
If I could choose one famous celebrity to wear my collection I would choose Blake Lively. She has that young and classy look that I see in this line. She’d rock any piece from this collection!
What is your Spring/Summer style?
A loose fitting dress with a light jacket with a cute pair of flats or converse.
What is your “go to” look for being on the beach?
Well besides my bikini while on the beach, dresses or cute tops with ripped up shorts.
Being a surfer are you always in your bikini?
YES!
Do you like to “dress it up” or dress down?
Majority of the time dress it down, but I do love to dress it UP on special occasions.
On the normal day in Montauk, what would typically you wear?
I would wear some sort of jeans and striped top with converse.
How does being a surfer influence your taste and style in life?
Being a surfer, always in a bikini really makes me appreciate clothing that much more. When I do get to dress up I love it! There are so many more options for street wear than there is for just going to the beach. I love that bright beachy look but I also like dressing a bit more edgy when getting the chance. I’ve been obsessing over boots lately, from high to ankle ones.
This question is so typical, but we have to ask… who is your favorite style icon?
My favorite style icon is Marilyn Monroe. She was one of the most glamorous, classy and beautiful women. I just love her look.
We can’t wait to get our hands on pieces from Quincy’s collection!
