I recently did a quick summer trip to my long lost love California. This state has enough opportunity and action to stimulate the whole world. In a small space in time, you will find more then you could ever imagine, and then some. Unfortunately this fast place lifestyle and the lure of material richness can mask what truly drives mans spirit, nature.
The environment is being dramatically effected by our constant misuse of what she naturally provides on a daily basis, not only in America. So it got me thinking, how can i encourage others in a user friendly way to try something every day to help our planet?
The positive side to our advanced and incredible human race is we are smart enough to change a few things we do daily to make a conscious effort and lessen our carbon footprint.
Sharing these easy to follow rituals of love for mother earth with loved ones is the fastest way to make change. It all helps in the long run and it feels good to, everyone wins.
Dairy free is not only a term for lactose intolerant. I am not anti meat, if we only consumed the animal products we hunted and gathered for our tribes i think we would be much better off, and so would the land and animals. Many of us westerners have become very detached from the products we buy at our local super market and the process involved in getting that item to the dinner table.
It is proven that over eating animal products is linked to sick amounts of illness in humans, not to mention what we are doing to the livestock themselves to get their body parts to us at faster and cheaper ways. Dairy farming is one of the largest contributors to C0’2 emissions on earth. We clear more perfect forestation and land to feed them than we do for ourselves. If humans cut down to eating just a few servings of Dairy a week, EVERYONE would be better off. Just not the money hungry dairy corp.
Save water shower with a friend, yes its sexual and funny but its real. Water is our most valuable resource and we are simply not doing enough to keep it clean and safe. Obviously if you live in a tropical area this may not come as an overly important issue to you. If you live in a drought affected area like those we have in California and western Australia this is very serious. As water prices rise and our plants look thirstier every year. We are currently using more then is naturally produced by the earth. There are many tips online for water conservation from shower heads to the best time to water your plants. Water is wasted everywhere from Newspapers to dairy farming, leaky taps to pouring toxic chemicals down your drain. Knowledge is power so educate yourself on how you can do your part in saving this liquid gold.
Re-use/recycle its cool. You don’t need the latest version of every thing to enjoy the finer things in life, and most things we buy everyday can live again through creative conscious ideas.
For instance fixing that which is broken is often just as good and more economical then throwing it away and buying another. Refurbish, renew, replay, rerun, restore the list goes on.
Many public areas are getting better at offering us separate recycling bins so its easier to put trash where it belongs for a new life, keep an eye out for them.
No one will argue the effect a striking vintage piece will have on your fashion expression. Products were built to last the test of time in the past so don’t be fooled by these flashy new things we are brain washed to believe we need, we usually can do without.
Plastic sucks the life out of you, literally. So now they decide to tell us that microwaving plastic is toxic, now its OK to release to the public that freezing plastic is toxic. The harmful effects of living in this plastic world will reveal its ugly head for years to come, its already taken over and it will be hard to break. Nearly all plastic when heated releases harmful energy, so the less you can expose yourself to it the better. Animals and marine life would be better off without it in our Eco system and so would we. Realistically you cant escape it in this day and age, there are however a few things you can keep in mind that i do daily to help out this overwhelming situation man has put us in. Buy in bulk, eat mostly unprocessed fresh foods, never take plastic bags for anything ever and don’t buy water bottles use metal reusable ones.
Drive less its good for your ass. Walk, ride, skip, run, train, hitchhike, skate, car pool. Avoid driving when you can, everyone knows cars equal pollution but i think people under estimate the mental effects sitting in traffic every day has on on us. Drive less, save money and its better for your health. What more could you want? You cant deny the sense of achievement you feel after you ride to work or run to the beach to go for a surf. It makes us feel young and alive the more active we are and the more time we spend outdoors. Try it and see if you feel instantly better about the life you lead. Humans were built to roam not just sit and kill time.
Spread the word, spread love and remember every action has a reaction.
